Solid Ground & Soaring FutureFundraising Campaign
Why has Kenesserie Camp created the Solid Ground & Soaring Future Campaign?
Within weeks of our planned 2023 opening for 400 registered campers, we were informed by Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit that we could not use any of our property or buildings within 150 feet of the Lake Erie bluffs, due to concerns around erosion and stability. The space included our kitchen and dining hall, half of our camper cabins, Vesper Point and our campfire circle. We had to find a solution quickly to ensure our campers received the summer they deserved.
Our solution?
We cooked from a food trailer, washed dishes in a shipping container and dined outside in big tents! To accommodate more sleeping space, we renovated an old portable on site and turned it into a double cabin.
But the last minute adaptations and a reduction in camper capacity came at a cost of $75,000.
We funded this expense through generous donation, but now need to build for our future!
Before we were required to close our shoreline facilities, Kenesserie Camp Board of Directors and management had already planned needed expansion. But now more is needed.
A new 1600 sq. ft. kitchen addition to our Spirit Centre will allow us to provide food and fun for our children this year and into our future.
The new facility and moving our cabins will allow us to:
- Continue to give our children a space to feel safe and be themselves
- Give kids a chance to build their independence
- Provide nutritious meals and snacks for campers and staff
- Host community groups for retreats
- Welcome school groups for field trips
- Provide a welcome place for our community
